Keep Our Republic Advocates for Judicial Safety in Wisconsin and Across the Nation Following Alarming US Marshals Service Report
Madison, WI – Amid a concerning surge in threats against the judiciary, marked by a significant triple-digit increase in 2023, Keep Our Republic (KOR) is issuing a powerful call to action, spotlighting Wisconsin’s pivotal role within this national crisis.
Last year, an alarming 457 federal judges and 155 federal prosecutors became targets of specific threats. As the nation braces for another wave of election-related litigation, the urgency for a united response from communities within the state and across the country is more pressing than ever.
KOR Executive Director Ari Mittleman asserted, “America’s judiciary, the backbone of American democracy, is experiencing unprecedented stress. This surge in threats is a clear call to action for all of us to protect our foundational values. Wisconsin, in particular, has the chance to set a strong example by actively safeguarding the judges and prosecutors who maintain justice in our communities.”
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Former US Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, John W. Vaudreuil, states, “The escalating lawlessness and threats toward our justice system are deeply concerning. This reflects a wider issue affecting the nation, including Wisconsin. We cannot afford to be passive as respect for our laws and those who enforce them is eroded.”
KOR Wisconsin State Director Kathy Bernier added, “Wisconsin is renowned for its civility and community spirit. Despite the challenges, I am optimistic about our collective ability to tackle this issue. We urge everyone to respect the law, respect the processes, and stand united against threats to our justice system. This crisis transcends Wisconsin; it is a national emergency that demands our collective action.”
