Ty Cobb attended Harvard College and Georgetown University Law Center. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Herbert, F. Murray, United States District Judge for the District of Maryland. Thereafter, he was an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Maryland between 1980 and 1986, where he became the Chief of the Criminal Division and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Coordinator for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. His subsequent government service included a stint in 1992-1993 as Senior Trial Counsel, Offie of Independent Counsel (HUD) under the Honorable Arlin M. Adams where he supervised the indictment and guilty plea of former Secretary of the Interior, James Watt, as well as a year as Special White House Counsel from July 2017 until June 2018. Between 1988 and 2017, Mr. Cobb was a partner at Hogan&Hartson (now Hogan Lovells Cadwalader) where he served on the Executive Committee of the firm and was a Director of the worldwide Litigation Group. He was also the head of the White Collar Crime and Investigations practice. Since leaving the White House in 2018 he has been a sole practitioner. Mr. Cobb is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers where he serves on the Rule of Law Committee and the Federal Rules of Evidence Committee.
