US court security, public defenders to receive funding boost in spending bill

This fiscal year, the federal judiciary is set to receive a boost in spending for court security and federal public defenders. This bipartisan proposal was released over the weekend and would provide $9.2 billion in funding for the federal judiciary for the 2026 fiscal year, which began on October 1. “The House last week passed a package of three other funding bills on a bipartisan vote of 397-28,” Reuters reports.
